Baby Names
Choosing the right baby name for your Southern Utah baby is so important.
I have been crazy about baby names since I was a child. What do they mean? Where do they come from? Will my child be one of three kids in class with the same name? Is this name too different?
Here are some great sites to help you in your search for the perfect name for your little one. And remember, one of the great things about having your baby at home is that you have plenty of time to spend with your little bundle before choosing a name, not the 24 hours mandated by the hospital stay. Several of my own babies were nameless for many days until the right name came to us.
Some common themes in naming that I have seen:
- Using a mothers maiden name
- Fathers middle name
- Combination of mother and fathers name example Brene (Brent and Rene)
- Check out the family tree
- Stick to a theme- all B names, all end in -ly etc.
- Look to the bible
- Look to nature- Lily, Rayne, Canyon
- Look at a globe-Houston, Paris
- Find a nickname you love and then find a name to match
- Watch a Pixar film, they list all of the production babies at the end
- Look to the movie stars, now they have creative names
- Look to your favorite books, movies, or musicians
- Go to the graveyard and walk around
- A parents name can often be altered to fit a child who isn't exact a Junior, Ken becomes Kendall
- Consider initial names- C.J. etc.
- Try different spellings
- If all else fails just make something up. We do live in Utah and Utahns are notorious for creative names.
