typical hospital birth without insurance. A home birth in Southern Utah costs about 50% of the cost of
the copay of the most common maternity insurance available in the area.
Payments, acceptance of credit cards, a sliding scale fee for lower income families, discounts for seeing me in my Leeds home office, discounts for payment in full by the 2nd prenatal, discounts for Medicaid clients, trade and other flexible options help make home birth a reality for all families.

What makes a Midwife Different?
The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.
The Midwives Model of Care includes:
- Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
- Providing
the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal
care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and
postpartum support
- Minimizing technological interventions
- Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
The application of this woman-centered
model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury,
trauma, and cesarean section.

Countless studies have shown that
healthy, low-risk women, birthing at home with a qualified midwife
experience fewer interventions, fewer cesarean sections, lower maternal
and infant mortality rates, and a more positive birth experience than
planned hospital births. For a comprehensive listing of some such
studies, see here.

What is a Doula?
A birth doula is a trained birth assistant who provides support to a laboring woman and her partner. While she is not a medical professional, she can offer a wide range of comfort measures during labor, from massage to aromatherapy to continuous reassurance and pain coping techniques. Pronounced doo-lah and meaning "woman's servant", the word has now come to mean a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the woman before, during and just after childbirth.
Women supported by a doula in labor have been shown to have:
* 50% reduction in cesarean sections.
* 25% shorter labor.
* 60% reduction in epidural requests.
* 30% reduction in analgesia use.
* 40% reduction in forceps use
